Sunil Gandha, Gandha's Indian Resteaurant, Newcastle

Sunil Gandha is owner and head chef of Gandha's Indian Restaurant and is famous through out the Hunter valley as the provider of authentic Fine Indian Cuisine.

 

Trained as an Aeronautical Engineer in India, he migrated to Australia in 1984. He worked with Bridge Industries in Mayfield, Newcastle as a Quality Control Officer. After working for a year he realised that Newcastle desperately needed a good quality Indian restaurant.

 

His passion for food took him to India in 1986 and he brought chefs from The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai on permanent residency. He worked with and learnt from the best. As the Indian Chefs got home sick, Sunil started taking some of the cooking work on himself. Gradually he took over the cooking part of the restaurant.

 

He takes pride in serving the Hunter community and a large number of dedicated and new clients. He had the privilege to serve celebrities like Sir Cliff Richards and Ms. Olivia Newton John on 2 separate occasions. He supports various Indian organisations like Vedic Samiti Newcastle (Hindu temple), Indian Association and other Social Communities. He has kidly consented to join the Indian Super Chef Judging Panel this year also.
