Rules of the Competition.

ELIGIBILITY:

 

  1. Every contestant shall be a current or previous resident of Hunter Valley. The eligibility area covers: North/South: Port Macquarie to Central coast, East/West: Newcastle to Musswelbrook. If organizers give permission in special case their decision will be final and binding to all.

  2. The contest is open to non-professionals. Persons currently working as chef/cook in hospitality industry are ineligible to contest.

  3. Contest is open to adults only (above 21 years). There will be no separate groups; male/female contestants will compete together.

 
COMPETITION FORMAT

 

  1. All contestants shall work alone. No help allowed.

  2. Competition is divided into TWO stages; Preliminary round and Final round.

  3. All contestants will cook one item of THEIR CHOICE in Preliminary round. However, they will be asked to pick a mystery ingredient provided by the organizers and will have to incorporate that into their recipe.

  4. All contestants need to make only Indian (sub-continental) recipes. Any other recipe will be unacceptable and will disqualify the contestant.

  5. All contestants will bring their own ingredients (grocery/spices/oil/condiments) for cooking Preliminary round recipe. The quantity must be sufficient for FOUR adults.

  6. All contestants shall bring their own portable single burner gas stove. For example refer to attached link: Gasmate Butane Burner. You may keep additional butane refill cylinder.

  7. In Final round, contestants will be asked to make a recipe. All will make the same recipe. All ingredients required for the final round shall be provided by the organizers.

 

COMPETITION TIMING

 

  1. All contestants shall arrive at the venue latest by 1.30 pm. Preliminary round shall begin at sharp 2.00 pm.

  2. Contestants shall have exactly 45 minutes to complete their cooking and presentation.

  3. Late arrivals will not be allowed additional time. They will loose time from their alloted 45 minutes.

  4. If there are more than 25 contestants, Preliminary round will be divided into two time slots: first will be from 2.00 pm to 2.45 pm; second will be from 3.00 pm to 3.45 pm.

  5. Judges will mark every recipe for different aspects. Total markes from all judges will be tallied to arrive at FIVE best contestants, who will compete in the Final round.

  6. From 4.00 pm to 4.30 pm, there will be a short break where food and soft drinks can be bought. All contestant recipes will be available for tasting at a nominal donation.

  7. Final round will begin at 4.30 pm. All finalists will be required to complete their recipe and presentation within 45 minutes only.

  8. Prize distribution will take place between 5.30 to 6.00 pm.

 

COMPETITION JUDGING
 
  1. All judges will be independent and expert in the field.
  2. All judges will individually mark all contestants for taste, presentation, cooking technique and time management.
  3. Judges/organizers' decision will be final and binding to all contestants. No disputes will be entertained.
 
PRIZES
 
  1. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winner and two runners up. Winner will receive $150 cash. First runner up will receive $100 and second runner up will get $75 cash prize.
  2. Additional prize to One contestant from the final round as "Audience Choice" for best skill, time management and presentation. All members of audience and contestants (except final round contestants) will be able to VOTE ELECTRONICALLY AT THE VENUE. Results of the poll will be announced with Judges award.
  3. All contestants will receive a certificate of participation.
